Cusco - The Inca Capital

The sights, tastes and sounds of Cusco are enough to make you want to come back for more. We only had a few days to savour the amusements of the Inca capital, which were felt were not quite enough. I could meander through the colonial streets of Cusco for days on end; visit the arts and crafts markets, bargaining for alpaca blankets and hand-woven rugs; going to Mercado Central for hot chicken noodle soup (one bowl for only three soles! And it's amazingly delicious!) or ordering a nutrient rich, freshly blended fruit juice or soothe (for the six soles you pay, you struggle to drink the entire one litre they give you, but it's a great detox and energy boost after days of hiking & sight seeing).
The historical centre isn't too small nor too large, and it's easy to get around by foot, or by taxi (there are literary thousands of taxis in Cusco which circle the city both day and night). It feels safe, even at night as the streets are very well lit and there are always people about. For a panoramic view of the city, head to El Christo Blano (just jump in a cab and tell the driver where you want to go - it's about 1km up the hill to the north of the centre).
Cusco is everything I expected it to be and more.

The Amazon: Manu National Park, Peru

These photographs were taken during a few days spent in the Manu National Park, Peru, which is known to be one of the most pristine and protected areas of the Amazon Jungle. Manu is accessible by a long, bumpy and winding road (which can be cut-off during the wet season), with many parts of the national park only being able to be reached via motorised canoe or on foot.
The area is truly amazing - the flora, the fauna, the people, the villages and the river...definitely worth the visit.
